Inside Renewable Energy Turning Toxic Sludge into Energy

Ever wondered what's in the sewer system? Alligators? Monsters? Try something far worse: Grease. Water utilities spend billions of dollars each year to get rid of the grease that clogs the system and erodes the pipes. A number of companies are now trying to turn that environmental and financial liability into a renewable energy asset. We'll speak with Emily Landsburg, CEO of BlackGold Biofuels, about the enormous potential for turning sewer grease into biodiesel. She'll tell us about how her company evolved from being a biofuels company into a water treatment company. Heather Landis, an analyst at Lux Research, joins us to discuss the market for turning toxic sludge into biogas, biofuels and electricity. It's still an early market for slow-moving utilities, but the need for change is imminent. Inside Renewable Energy is a weekly audio news program featuring stories and interviews on all the latest developments in the renewable energy industries.
